A Story of Talent and Opportunity

Moses Kamau was born and raised in Gatono, a village where life is simple but full of potential. From a young age, Moses had a deep passion for birds—not just observing them, but capturing their beauty in art. After completing his schooling, he decided to turn this passion into a skill that could sustain him and empower others in his community. Moses’s journey began when he saw someone carving birds and approached them for guidance.

Through dedication and practice, he quickly mastered the craft on his own. Soon, he began creating intricate bird carvings from jacaranda wood, combining his love for nature with his artistic talent. Initially, he worked from home, but as demand grew, he opened a small workshop in the village to accommodate his growing activity. Beyond building his own livelihood, Moses is committed to uplifting others.

He has trained many youths in the art of bird carving and continues to offer guidance and mentorship. However, space is a major limitation. With a larger workshop and more materials, Moses could train many more young people, providing them with skills, income, and a constructive way to spend their time. Moses works with materials that are locally sourced yet versatile: jacaranda wood, paint, wire, and sewing yarn. Using these simple tools, he brings beautiful bird carvings to life—pieces that reflect creativity, patience, and love for the craft. With support, Moses Kamau can expand his workshop, reach more aspiring carvers, and create a vibrant hub of creativity and skill in Gatono. Investing in his talent is not just helping one man—it is giving an entire community the tools to build livelihoods, preserve art, and inspire young people to follow their passions. Supporting Moses means turning a simple passion into a sustainable impact for the village and beyond.
